Ibrahim Baba Goni
Professor of Hydrogeology at the Department of Geology, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria
Goni has over thirty years of teaching and research experiences. He started his career from 1991 as a graduate assistant, with a B.Sc. Geology in 1989. He obtained his M.Sc. in 1996 and a Ph.D. in 2003 in Hydrogeology. He rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2009. Goni was the Head of Geology Department between to 2005 to 2010. He was the Editor-In-Chief to Water Resource Journal from 2012-2016, Business Manager of the Research Journal of Science and Associate-Editor to many national and international journals.
Over this period, Goni has worked and collaborated with professional colleagues within the country and abroad. Some of these collaborations are with British Geological Survey, UK; Oxford University in UK; University of Avignon, France; ETH Zurich, Switzerland; University of Missouri Kansas City, US; University of Niamey, Niger; University of Ndjamena, Tchad; University of Ngoudere, Cameroun; etc. Other institutions he has worked with include: UNESCO, IAEA, IUCN, NEAZDP, PTF, LCBC, etc. This is in addition to government ministries and agencies in Nigeria. He has been the National Expert to UNESCO AWaCab project and the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
Goni has attended and presented papers in several conferences and workshops both locally and internationally in the fields of geosciences. He has over fifty published papers in peer reviewed national and international journals in the fields of geosciences. Goni is a fellow of International Association of Hydrogeologists (FIAH) and Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (FNAH), a member of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (MNMGS) and registered with the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG).
